Ah. Summer is upon us. Meaning late, warm nights, endless days laying out in the sun (or just hiding out in your flat) and let’s not forget; festival season. What better time than now to try some new cool ways to style those precious pits?
There doesn’t only have to be a “Should I?” or “Shouldn’t I?” when it comes to your pit fuzz, because there are so many ways you could style it. It’s just body hair after all, and it can be just as fun and exciting to experiment with the hair in your pits, as the strands on your head. So we obviously wanted to share some tips and tricks on how to get the coolest pits this summer.
4 fabulous ways to pimp your pits
1. Coloured pits
Here’s a hot classic: the coloured pit. The best thing about this ‘do, is that there are so many ways to do it. Maybe you like it hot pink, are having a turquoise moment or are into laid back pastels? You can even have a different colour in each pit, for that split hair coloured look. Just fab.
If you have dark underarm hair, you’ll need to bleach your pit fuzz in order for the dye to be absorbed properly. If the hair in your pits is light, however, you can start smacking on your colour of choice right away. But, not before cleaning them with some warm water and soap. That old deodorant gotta go first. Another tip is to look for bleach and dye that is natural, to minimize the risk of skin irritation. Let the dye sit for as long as recommended, wash it off and go enjoy your colourful pits.
2. Rainbow pits (Aka The Pride Pits)
The rainbow pit was hot hot hot a couple of years back, and we think it’s time for it to make a comeback. Summer also means Pride season, so now is really the perfect time to rock this pit style (even though the style would look great any time of the year).
The process here is similar to a coloured pit, but the difference is that you add multiple colours in thin stripes across your pits. Wash, dry and bleach your hair if needed and then apply the coloured dyes to your pits. Let sit for the recommended time, wash the dye off and voilá - you have the coolest pits in town.
3. Glitter pits
Nothing says festival like glitter. If you’re someone who likes to put some sparkles on your face, then why not try embellishing those pits too? There are endless combinations you can try with glitter. Maybe try a good ol’ galactic silver look, a pulse-raising purple or a glorious green. If you’re using larger glitter grains you can even try to apply them in cool patterns. The pit is your oyster!
How to stick em’ on
You can either make the glitter stick with some hair gel or use some traditional glitter body glue. Just make sure you let your pits dry before putting your arms down. Our hottest tip is to practice your festival moves while they dry. Get your fab arms up!
Just one more thing - before you go all crazy with the glitz in your pits, please use glitter that’s degradable (especially if you’re roaming around at festivals out in nature). Glitter pits look good, but they never look good enough to justify sacrificing nature.
4. The au naturale with a cut
The natural pit is just what it sounds like - a natural beauty. But sometimes it can be fun to spice things up ofc. In previous articles we’ve talked about pubic hairstyles, so why not try something similar for your precious pits? We haven’t seen this style before, but how cool wouldn’t it be? Just keep in mind you might need to have a bit longer fuzz underneath your arms for this style. A sweet, heart-shaped style, a bold lightning, or maybe a real fluffy one trimmed like a cloud (you wouldn’t even need to trim much tbh).
Prepare yourself with some good scissors and a sharp razor before you start shaving your pit into the desired shape. Use some shaving gel, and ask a friend for help if the angle is tricky. Hey, that’s what they’re for, right?
