When it comes to having the smoothest skin of your life, we’d like to think we’ve got a pretty good understanding of how to achieve this bold claim. Not to generalise, but we believe we’ve managed to figure out three smart, no-nonsense methods when it comes to waxing, shaving or dermaplaning to create stunningly smooth skin.
Step 1. Exfoliation
Step 2. Check your blades / Check your hair length.
Step 3. Hydrate your skin
How to get smooth skin when shaving?
Step 1. Exfoliation
Prep it or forget It! Whether you’re into waxing, shaving or dermaplaning, exfoliation is a rule so important we stand by it day in, day out. See this as smooth skin’s soul mate. Begin your exfoliation ritual a couple of days prior to hair removal, continuing it on a weekly basis. Try our Essential Exfoliant, which effectively loosens dead skin cells, enhancing the texture of dry, rough areas and preparing the skin. When it comes to dermaplaning your face, as the skin is super delicate, opt for a gentle exfoliator that contains AHAs and BHAs. This combination is ideal for reducing clogged pores and preventing breakouts. Avoid using overly abrasive products here, as they can stimulate irritation.
Step 2. Check your blades and your hair length
For shaving + dermaplaning - switch out your blades:
When your blades are dull, they won't give you that smooth, dolphin skin effect. Instead, you’ll notice the blade starts to feel like it's dragging instead of gliding, and annoyingly that’ll make you want to shave more often as you won’t achieve a super close shave. And let's be honest, that's not what you want, right?
So to keep this from happening we recommend keeping a stash of blade refills within reach, ideally switching out every 5-7 uses. We have also created a squishy, washable travel case to prevent your razor from rusting, which is pretty nifty. If you are dermaplaning, take a new blade every 3rd use.
For waxing - check your hair length:
So this is as important as switching out your blades for shaving. Waxing needs a vibe check too - that comes in the shape of hair length. Ideally, your hair should be no shorter than 2mm (roughly the thickness of a penny). This will allow the soft gel strip to get an active grip, hugging the hair and giving an efficient, smooth pull in one go. If you have recently shaved, waxing won’t be as effective as the wax is likely to miss patches. Wax strips hate stubble is what we are trying to say.
Step 3. Hydrate your skin
It’s all in the aftercare! After you’ve finished removing as much or as little hair as you like, always finish with a nourishing moisturiser, such as our Everyday Body Lotion to provide deep hydration and soothing benefits. Consider using a conditioning oil infused with hero ingredients like Squalene or Aloe Vera, which work together to create a velvety finish and brighten your glow. Additionally, opt for lotions that hold replenishing lipids, fortifying ceramides, moisturising glycerin, and hydrating hyaluronic acid to elevate the skin's protective barrier and maintain a smooth sensation on your skin.
